Always has seemed like a fire hazard to me. At the same time I watched people do it at work for close to a decade.

Vertical toasters are fire hazards in general. While putting hash browns in there seems sketchy, pop tarts are actually much more dangerous and flammable.

One time in college we had this midnight breakfast thing for dead week. I put a piece of bread with butter through one of those conveyer toasters. That shit caught fire.

I used to put chicken patties in my toaster. It was great until the toaster evolved into a furnace and started spewing flames. Still tasted good

I used to do this and don't anymore. It's a horrible idea.

All the oil/grease leaks off the hash browns and drips into the toaster and once it fills up enough drips all over your counter. It degrades over time and will eventually start an oil fire.

Trust me, don't do this. It's a great way to lose your security deposit.
